UFC President Dana White has ignited a fresh wave of controversy following his remarks about a shooting incident at the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner, describing the experience as “f***ing awesome.” His comments have drawn sharp criticism from prominent UFC fighters Sean Strickland and Matt Brown, who labelled White a “sociopath” and expressed their disbelief.

The incident occurred while White was attending the high-profile event at the Washington Hilton hotel. Shots were fired, leading to the immediate evacuation of then-President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and various White House officials by Secret Service members. A police officer sustained an injury but was saved by his bulletproof vest. The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old tutor Cole Tomas Allen.

Despite the gravity of the situation, White offered a startling account of his experience. He claimed he “didn’t get down” during the chaos, even amidst screams and visible footage of the incident. He characterized the event as “a pretty crazy, unique experience,” but it was his use of “f***ing awesome” that provoked the most intense backlash.

Strickland labels White a ‘sociopath’

Sean Strickland, a former middleweight champion and one of combat sports’ most controversial figures, did not mince words when reacting to his boss’s comments. Speaking to Happy Punch, Strickland offered a blunt assessment of White’s character.

“I’m sure Dana White is a sociopath,” Strickland stated, as reported by Happy Punch on X/Twitter. “Let’s be honest. At that level, what he’s accomplished, the s*** he deals with. I’m sure he’s a super narcissistic sociopath… I would probably even say a psychopath.”

Strickland is currently preparing for a main event clash against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328 on May 10, scheduled to take place at the Prudential Center.

Matt Brown ‘flabbergasted’ by comments

Former UFC welterweight Matt Brown also voiced his strong disapproval, telling The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast that he was “flabbergasted” by White’s remarks. Brown, who has personal experience with a shooting incident, having been present at a concert in Columbus, Ohio, in 2004 where metal guitarist Dimebag Darrell was murdered on stage, emphasized the seriousness of such events.

“It is not awesome in any sense of the word. It is not f***ing cool one bit,” Brown asserted. “A dude got shot… There’s not a single f***ing thing awesome about that. People don’t need to be going around shooting people and there’s nothing cool about that. I don’t know why anyone would say that was awesome. That’s the weirdest, most oddball thing I’ve ever heard anybody say.”

White’s comments have once again placed the UFC chief at the center of a public debate, with his own fighters openly questioning his perspective on a serious and potentially life-threatening situation.
