Driver who injured more than 130 in Liverpool parade crash pleads guilty

According to Sky Sports News, Doyle appeared overwhelmed as he entered his new pleas, at times wiping away tears while confirming each charge. He acknowledged nine counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, 17 counts of attempted GBH and three counts of wounding with intent.

Prosecutors told the court that the decision followed an extensive review of video footage, eyewitness accounts and forensic analysis gathered since the May crash.

Judge Andrew Menary KC scheduled a two-day sentencing hearing for 15 December and remanded Doyle into custody, cautioning him that a lengthy prison term is “inevitable.”

A celebration that turned suddenly chaotic

The charges stem from an incident on 26 May, when Liverpool supporters filled city streets to celebrate the club’s long-delayed Premier League title parade. It was the first time fans could join such celebrations since pandemic restrictions in 2020 forced the team to mark its championship without public gatherings.

Police evidence presented in court indicates that more than 130 people were injured when the vehicle Doyle was driving struck spectators near the end of the parade route. Officers detained him at the scene. Merseyside Police later described the survival of all victims as “a sheer miracle.”

Club acknowledges victims after plea change

Shortly after the guilty pleas became public, Liverpool FC issued a statement reflecting on both the celebration and the trauma that followed.

The club said:

“Our victory parade last May allowed an unprecedented number of Liverpool fans to celebrate together our Premier League title win – something we were unable to do in 2020.

“The day of incredible joy ended in unimaginable circumstances and we hope today's conviction brings some peace to all those affected by the horrific incident. Our thoughts are with them all.

“We would like to thank our emergency services and partner agencies – Merseyside Police, North West and St John Ambulance Services, Merseyside Fire & Rescue and members of the public, who responded with such bravery and compassion on the day. Their actions undoubtedly saved lives and exemplified the spirit of our city.”

Liverpool added no further comment ahead of sentencing.
