Eddie Hearn reveals progress in Joshua-Fury negotiations
Negotiations for a long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are nearing completion, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, who says discussions are now at an advanced stage.
Speaking to IFL TV, Hearn indicated that both camps are working toward a two-fight agreement, raising hopes that one of British boxing’s most anticipated matchups could finally be confirmed after years of false starts.
The latest momentum follows Fury’s public challenge to Joshua after defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh attempted to announce the bout immediately after the fight, but Joshua, who was seated ringside, dismissed the moment, calling Fury a “clout chaser” as negotiations continued behind closed doors.
Despite that exchange, talks have continued to progress. Hearn suggested the fight could take place later this year, provided Joshua completes a planned return bout this summer.

Joshua is expected to fight in July as he rebuilds following injuries and a difficult personal period. Hearn acknowledged the opponent may not generate widespread excitement but stressed the importance of a measured comeback.
“AJ's going to fight in July,” Hearn said. “It's going to be someone where I don't think you guys are going to look at it and go ‘wow’… If AJ's not physically or mentally ready, it will be a very dangerous fight, but it's also a comeback fight after some quite severe injuries and a very traumatic time in his life.”
He added that securing the Fury bout provides reassurance regardless of the interim matchup, describing it as a step toward “the fight of all time.”
The location for Joshua vs Fury has yet to be finalized. Hearn indicated that the decision will likely rest with Alalshikh, who has been heavily involved in staging major boxing events in Saudi Arabia.

If completed, the fight is expected to be one of the biggest in modern heavyweight boxing and could be broadcast across major streaming platforms, including DAZN.
