Police enter the away section
Eight Górnik Zabrze supporters were detained following disturbances at Fenerbahçe’s stadium in Istanbul on Tuesday evening.
The confrontation occurred in the away section shortly before or during the opening stages of the Champions League second qualifying round match. Footage circulated online showing police officers entering the stand and clashing with visiting supporters.
Approximately 700 Polish fans had travelled to the game. According to RMF24, Turkish authorities detained eight members of the travelling support.
The precise sequence of events has not been independently established. Turkish reports accused Polish supporters of confronting and physically attacking police officers, while the available footage mainly showed the resulting disorder and police intervention.

Turkish coverage adopts combative tone
Several Turkish publications presented the incident as a deliberate provocation by the visiting fans.
“Górnik Zabrze supporters were put in their place,” declared Takvim in its report, which alleged that the confrontation began with an argument before becoming physical.
The aggressive wording attracted attention in Poland. Przegląd Sportowy described the Turkish reaction as an attack on the Polish supporters, while confirming that several fans had been taken into custody.
No detailed account from the detained supporters was included in the initial reports, making it difficult to verify every claim surrounding the start of the confrontation.

Talisca gives Fenerbahçe the advantage
The match continued despite the disorder in the stands. Anderson Talisca scored the only goal with a free kick in the 37th minute, as reported by Daily Sabah.
Fenerbahçe’s 1-0 victory gives the Turkish side a narrow advantage, although Górnik remain firmly in the tie after limiting their opponents to a single goal in Istanbul.
The game was the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round, not a friendly or a preliminary fixture.
Decisive second leg awaits in Zabrze
The return match will be played at Arena Zabrze on Wednesday, July 29, according to UEFA’s official fixture page.
