Just over two months after swapping Catalonia for Paris, Ferran Torres meets the club he spent four and a half years with. His €50 million summer move to Paris Saint-Germain now runs into a Champions League night at the Parc des Princes.

Torres has already acknowledged the weight of the reunion.

“PSG-Barcelona matches are always special,” he told Goal ahead of the fixture. “They were my teammates for four and a half years. It’s going to be an exciting match for me and for the team.”

The 26-year-old scored the extra-time winner for Spain in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina before leaving Barcelona, where he had made 207 appearances and shared the Zarra Trophy with Lamine Yamal in 2025-26 with 16 La Liga goals.

Barcelona arrive with eight from eight

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have won every La Liga match this season. From a 5-0 opening-day win over Elche in late August to Saturday’s 3-0 defeat of Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou, the Catalans are top of the table and have scored at least three goals in six of their eight matchday wins.

The win over Getafe equalled the club record of eight consecutive league victories to start a season, previously set under Tata Martino in 2013-14. The 7-2 win over Racing Santander on 16 September and a 5-0 win at Valencia on 6 September are the heaviest returns.

Flick’s attack has been reshaped twice over the summer. Robert Lewandowski joined Chicago Fire, and Torres followed him through the exit door shortly after. Yamal remains the player opponents build their defensive plans around.

PSG’s start was “peculiar”, says Luis Enrique

The reigning European champions arrive in a stranger place. Luis Enrique’s side sit fifth in Ligue 1, three points behind leaders Monaco, after a start the manager himself called “peculiar” before the September international break.

Three consecutive league wins have steadied things. Luis Enrique described his team as “almost perfect” after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat of Le Mans, in which Lucas Beraldo, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Maghnes Akliouche scored.

Torres has adapted quickly. French Football Weekly reported seven goals in 325 minutes across his first six appearances for the club, a rate that has already prompted debate inside the Spain squad.

Six days separate Manchester City and Barcelona

The schedule is unforgiving. PSG travel to the Etihad on Wednesday night for matchday 2 against Manchester City before hosting Barcelona six days later. Two of Europe’s most expensive squads back to back is as compressed a stretch as Luis Enrique will plan for all autumn.

Barcelona open their own matchday 2 against Galatasaray in Istanbul on Tuesday night. Their matchday 1 was a 5-1 win over Feyenoord in September.

Luis Enrique coached Torres during his spell in charge of Spain, a relationship Torres has cited publicly as central to his decision to move. Flick, in his third season at Barcelona after replacing Xavi in 2024, signed an extension at the club earlier in the year.

Kick-off at the Parc des Princes is at 9pm local time on Tuesday, 20 October.
