Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez has launched a scathing attack, claiming an “orchestrated campaign” is targeting the club and himself, while also reaffirming his commitment to the Super League project and expressing strong views on the ongoing Negreira Case involving FC Barcelona.

Speaking to Josep Pedrerol on La Sexta, as reported by AS, a day after announcing club elections, Pérez did not mince his words. He directly criticized newspaper ABC and alleged there had been a concerted effort to undermine Real Madrid. He also pointed to what he sees as a disparity in league titles, claiming Madrid have won only seven La Liga championships during his tenure — a number he believes “could have been 14” were it not for the issues surrounding the Negreira Case.

The campaign against Real Madrid

“There is an orchestrated campaign ongoing against Real Madrid,” Pérez asserted during the interview. His comments underscore a deep-seated belief within the club’s leadership that external forces are working against their interests. This sentiment extends to his claims regarding refereeing decisions, particularly in light of the payments made by FC Barcelona.

Pérez revealed he only became aware of the Negreira Case three years ago, despite allegations that FC Barcelona had been making payments for over two decades. Real Madrid has positioned itself as an injured party in the investigation, being the first club to formally come forward. Pérez also highlighted what he perceives as a lack of action from LaLiga, stating the league is “also involved” but “says nothing” on the matter.

Negreira case and the call for “serious football”

The Real Madrid president did not hold back when discussing the gravity of the situation, framing it as a pivotal moment for the sport. “Football is waiting for the biggest corruption case in the world to be resolved,” Pérez told ‘La Sexta’. “Do we want serious football? This is systemic corruption. Real Madrid is the only club that has filed a formal complaint. LaLiga has also filed a complaint and said nothing.”

In a related move, Real Madrid plans to submit 500 pages of documentation to UEFA next week, detailing what they claim are points “blatantly taken” from them, estimating a loss of 16-18 points this season alone. Pérez indicated that UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin had previously assured Real Madrid they were “within our rights” regarding these claims.

Super League revival and broken relationships

Beyond the domestic controversies, Pérez reiterated his vision for a European Super League, emboldened by a favorable ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). The CJEU’s decision affirmed the right of clubs to form new competitions, a significant victory for the project’s proponents.

However, the fallout from the Negreira Case has severely impacted relationships within Spanish football’s elite. Pérez confirmed that Real Madrid’s relationship with FC Barcelona is now “completely broken” due to the ongoing scandal.
