The clip has been everywhere on social media this week: Jamal Murray, on the “All the Smoke” podcast, calmly explaining that whenever he goes home he skips the bed and takes an air mattress instead.

“I don’t really look at money like that. I’m a pretty humble guy. When I go home, I actually sleep on an air mattress to keep my mental, to know where I’m coming from,” Murray told hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.

The clip was recorded around four years ago, but a fresh round of shares reframed it as current, tagged with the guard’s career earnings now totaling more than $378m across three NBA contracts.

Parents renovated and added a bed

Murray addressed the resurfaced post himself, as first flagged by Fadeaway World.

“This clip was from four years ago… Parents renovated and added a bed, but I still challenge myself in other ways… God bless!” Murray wrote on social media.

When he recorded the podcast, he was still years away from agreeing to a four-year, $208m maximum extension in 2024 that ties him to Denver through the 2028-29 season.

The little-brother clause

The original podcast answer had a second half that never really went viral. Murray tied the whole air-mattress routine to his younger brother.

“I got a little brother that’s watching me as well. I don’t want him to see that you can get whatever you want, but you don’t take it because of why… money isn’t everything. If I didn’t have any of it, I’d still be the same person I am today,” Murray told the hosts.

Murray earned his first All-Star call-up in February 2026 in his ninth NBA season, joining Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokić on the Western Conference roster.
