Speaking in Madrid on Monday evening ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League trip to Atlético Madrid, Harry Kane confirmed that his new contract is all but done.
“I’d say it’s a matter of days. There’s been a good conversation over this weekend, and today as well, so yeah, I know I keep saying we’re close, but we are extremely close now,” Kane told reporters.
The England captain’s current deal, signed when he arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, runs until the end of the 2026-27 season. The new terms would tie him to the German champions until 2029, when he will be 36.
The Ballon d’Or changed the mood
Bayern were in no mood to let the paperwork linger after Kane was named the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, beating Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to the award and becoming the first Bundesliga-based player to lift the trophy in three decades.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen told German media last week that the substance of the deal was agreed before the Paris ceremony, with lawyers now handling the rest.
“We’re working on the details. That simply takes a few days. It’s normal when lawyers exchange the finer points with one another. We had already discussed and negotiated all the important issues before the Ballon d’Or ceremony,” Dreesen said.
Dreesen also made clear that Bayern’s talks ran through Kane’s inner circle, as they did two years ago.
“There were naturally many conversations with Kane’s father and brother back then, and that’s how it is now as well. But we both know that we want to extend this arrangement for as long as possible,” he said.

No exit clause in the agreement
Kane is on a reported £400,000 a week and, according to Sky Sports, the broad agreement reached last month does not include a release clause for interested clubs. Bayern see him as the centrepiece of their project under head coach Vincent Kompany, who signed his own extension through 2029 a year ago.
Dreesen underlined that unusual commitment when the agreement in principle was first reported.
“We don’t usually negotiate deals for players at this age,” he told Sky Germany when the broad terms emerged in mid-October.
156 goals in 160 games
Kane’s numbers at Bayern have made the renewal feel inevitable. The 33-year-old has scored 156 goals in 160 competitive appearances since joining the club, has topped the Bundesliga scoring charts in each of his first three seasons, and set a new mark for the fastest player to 100 Bundesliga goals, reaching the figure in 98 games.

His haul so far includes two Bundesliga titles, one DFB-Pokal and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups, honours he has openly said drew him to Germany in the first place.
“When I joined Bayern, I wanted to win trophies and keep developing as a player. I knew I could go even further,” Kane said at Monday’s media session.
Kane and Bayern face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, and Dreesen’s “few days” window would put the signatures in place within days.
