For a striker who had not started a league match since the opening weekend, Osula could hardly have asked for a bigger name in his comments.

Back in the starting lineup at Selhurst Park on Sunday after a lengthy spell out, he turned in Jacob Murphy’s cross just after half-time for his first goal of the season. Harvey Barnes added the second in the 58th minute, VAVEL reported, and Newcastle had their first league win in weeks.

The Danish forward celebrated the goal on social media, and among those who dropped into his replies was Mbappe. The Real Madrid and France striker’s verdict ran to two words, according to BritBrief.

“World Class.”

‘He did an amazing job’

Osula had not started a Premier League match since the opening-day draw with Liverpool, with the injury keeping him out for an extended spell.

Head coach Matthias Jaissle said his forward delivered what the team had been missing.

“He did an amazing job, we’re happy that he’s getting back on track,” Jaissle told reporters, according to Yahoo Sports. “He was out for a long time so now physically he’s improving and a player with huge potential.”

A result Jaissle needed

The win ended a run of back-to-back defeats and eased the pressure on Jaissle, whose future had been under scrutiny earlier in the month, Goal reported, with the Newcastle board publicly backing him to turn the season around.

Osula told Chronicle Live he was ready to play in whatever role Jaissle asks of him, saying he was simply happy to be back after what had been a tough period.
