A 41-year-old entering his 24th year in the toughest basketball league on earth is not supposed to out-recover the field. LeBron James does.

WHOOP’s own membership data places him in the top 10% for sleep efficiency, and he has worn the band every single day of 2026, the company said as it named him a global ambassador on Thursday.

The announcement formalises a relationship that has run since 2015, when James was one of WHOOP’s first 100 members, long before fitness wearables were household items. He is also an investor in the Boston-based company, after joining its March Series G round that raised $575m at a $10.1bn valuation, according to Athletech News.

“I’ve spent my career doing everything possible to keep my body at peak performance. For the last 11 years, WHOOP has been part of that,” James said in the company’s statement.

“I’m not trying to be great for my age. I’m trying to be great, period.”

Top 10% on sleep, 100% wear rate in 2026

The sleep-efficiency ranking covers WHOOP’s full base of more than three million members across 56 countries. His recorded wear rate in 2026 is 100%, meaning no days without the band, and the company says he logged more than nine hours of sleep on his 40th birthday with a recovery score above 80.

“LeBron James represents the pinnacle of performance and longevity. He was one of the first 100 WHOOP members long before anyone had ever heard of Strain or our Recovery Score,” said Will Ahmed, the company’s founder and chief executive.

The ambassador contract will also include a limited-edition Whoop band designed with input from James, Athletech News reported, mirroring the company’s earlier product collaboration with Cristiano Ronaldo.

First home game as a Sixer on Friday

James moved east over the summer, signing a two-year, $8m deal with the Philadelphia 76ers after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He made his regular-season debut in a 76ers jersey at Madison Square Garden on 22 October, against the reigning champion New York Knicks.

The Knicks visit Philadelphia on Friday, 30 October, for the first home game of James’s 76ers tenure.
