Lionel Messi speaks candidly about life away from football

Lionel Messi has spoken openly about his personality and life away from football, offering a candid look at how routine, family life and the need for quiet shape his days.

The comments came during a relaxed appearance on Luzu TV, excerpts of which were later reported by Spanish sports daily MARCA. Rather than focusing on trophies or achievements, Messi talked about habits and moods that rarely surface in public interviews.

A need for space

Messi described himself as someone who values time alone, even as a father of three. Reflecting on his own character, he said: “I'm weirder than shit. I really like being alone, I enjoy being alone.”

Family life, he suggested, can be both grounding and exhausting. Living in a busy household eventually wears on him. “The mess at home with the three kids running around everywhere ends up saturating me and I like a moment of solitude,” he said.

The remarks show a more inward-looking side than the calm figure fans usually see on the pitch, hinting that constant noise and activity away from football can be draining in their own way.

Routine and temperament

According to MARCA, Messi also explained how heavily he relies on structure. He said unexpected changes to his plans affect him more than he would like, describing himself as highly organised and uncomfortable with disruption. “I'm very structured, if I have the day organised in a certain way and in the middle something happens that changes everything for me...,” he said.

Asked about other personal quirks, Messi turned to his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, suggesting she notices patterns he often overlooks. “Antonella can say many more things than I can, it depends on my mood on many things, on small stupid things,” he added.

The interview paints a portrait of a player whose private life is shaped by routine and control qualities that stand in contrast to the freedom and improvisation that have defined his football for nearly two decades.
