Liverpool fans turn on Szoboszlai after PSG loss
Frustration is building among Liverpool supporters after a damaging week that has raised fresh concerns about the team’s direction under Arne Slot.
The reaction intensified following Dominik Szoboszlai’s post-match comments after the club’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Fans question response after flat performance
Liverpool struggled to impose themselves in Paris, failing to test the opposition goalkeeper as PSG took control of the tie. Match reports noted goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in each half, underlining the gap between the sides on the night.
Speaking on CBS Sports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher delivered a blunt assessment of the performance: “That, what we’ve just saw tonight, was like watching a team from a lower division playing someone [much better]. The gulf in class was very worrying from a Liverpool point of view.”

The result followed a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup, adding to a run that has increased scrutiny on Slot. While the club has not commented publicly on his future, recent results have led to growing speculation about his long-term position.
Szoboszlai remarks draw criticism
In the aftermath of the PSG loss, Szoboszlai struck an optimistic tone in an interview with beIN Sports, looking ahead to the return leg at Anfield.
“We're not going to be only 11 players, we're going to be the whole stadium,” he said. “I can't really wait for it, these nights in Anfield are always special.”
However, many supporters viewed the comments as disconnected from the team’s performance. Reaction on social media, compiled from posts on X, reflected frustration not only with the result but with what some saw as a lack of accountability.

Some fans argued that energy and support from the crowd should not be a substitute for improved performances on the pitch, while others pointed to Szoboszlai’s recent interactions with supporters following the defeat to Manchester City as further reason for discontent.
Focus shifts to response at Anfield
Liverpool now face a critical period, beginning with a Premier League trip to Fulham before hosting PSG in the second leg.
Overturning the deficit will require a significant improvement, but the atmosphere at Anfield often a decisive factor on European nights could still play a role.
Whether that will be enough to shift momentum, however, remains uncertain given the scale of the recent performances.
