Mohamed Salah, one of football’s most prolific forwards, is reportedly “very keen” on a surprise move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, following his departure from Liverpool as a free agent this summer. Talks between the player’s representatives and the Istanbul club are said to have been positive, with a potential three-year contract worth a staggering €90 million (£77m) on the table.
Salah, 33, ended a decorated nine-year spell at Anfield, where he established himself as a club legend. During his time with Liverpool, he scored an impressive 257 goals in 442 matches and was instrumental in securing nine trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown. However, his final season in 2025/2026 saw a dip in form, with 12 goals in 41 matches, and a high-profile outburst with manager Arne Slot in December 2025 fueled speculation about his future, leading to his confirmed departure in March 2026.
Fenerbahce’s ambitious pursuit
Fenerbahce’s pursuit of Salah gained significant momentum during the club’s recent presidential election. Candidate Aziz Yildrim, who ultimately won the election, had publicly stated his intention to try and sign the Egyptian star. Ertan Torunogullari, a former board member at Fenerbahce, provided further insight into the negotiations, indicating that a breakthrough had been made.
“He (Salah) was very keen on coming to Türkiye. The meetings he had with us were extremely positive,” Torunogullari told Football365. “We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary. If the new administration makes such a request, I believe Salah will wear the Fenerbahce jersey. We would gladly work with the new administration on negotiations.”

The proposed terms for Salah are substantial, with Yildrim mentioning a three-year deal worth a total of €90 million. ThisIsAnfield also reported claims of a £500,000-a-week contract, underscoring Fenerbahce’s serious intent. The Turkish club has already attracted several high-profile players, with N’Golo Kante, Fred, Matteo Guendouzi, Ederson, and Marco Asensio currently on their books, signaling a clear ambition to compete at the highest level.
World Cup decision looms
Salah’s immediate focus will be on the upcoming World Cup, where he is set to play a pivotal role for Egypt. His future club decision, however, remains open, with the player himself indicating a timeline tied to the tournament.
“I will still see [about where to go next], I have time now, I am going to the World Cup and then everything will be clear, either if there is a good opportunity before it I will decide, and if it is not there, I will make my decision after the World Cup,” Salah stated reported by Givemesport.
Egypt has been drawn in Group G for the World Cup, with their fixtures scheduled as follows:
