Luis Diaz himself has taken the sting out of the alarm he caused at the Allianz Arena.

Hours after being pulled off at the end of Bayern Munich’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal on Wednesday, the Colombian spoke to Sky Sport and insisted the problem is minor.

“Nothing serious,” Diaz said, adding that he expected to be back in action after a few days of rest.

That is the line the champions wanted to hear. Diaz had been introduced in the 68th minute at the Allianz Arena, only to go down near full time away from the ball and signal to the medical staff that he could not continue.

Kompany: twice is a worry

Vincent Kompany did not share quite the same calm. The Belgian coach was concerned by the recurrence rather than the severity.

“The communication was not such that we spoke for a long time. I hope it’s not bad. But when it happens for the second time, you’re always a bit worried,” Kompany said.

Diaz had already picked up a knock against RB Leipzig the previous weekend and did not train fully in the build-up to Arsenal. He pushed to be involved anyway.

“He didn’t train 100 per cent, but said this morning ‘Coach, I want to be there and I’d like to play’. It’s a good thing for us that he can be there on the bench,” Kompany said before kick-off.

Eberl: no risks taken

Bayern board member Max Eberl explained the late withdrawal in the same terms.

“He already had muscular problems before the game and felt it slightly again now. We didn’t want to take any risks. Let’s wait and see,” Eberl told reporters, according to Yahoo Sports.

Bayern had held off a late Arsenal push to collect a point in the league phase, but losing Diaz for any stretch would be felt. The former Liverpool forward has been one of Kompany’s most important attackers since his summer move to Germany, and the schedule from here is unforgiving.

Scan to decide

The next test is a Bundesliga trip to Freiburg on Sunday 25 October, kick-off at 5:30pm local time. On Diaz’s own timetable of “a few days”, that match looks tight; the following week brings another Champions League night.
