According to Sportbible, Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League final on Tuesday night, prompting jubilant celebrations at the Emirates Stadium. However, former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has warned that the reaction may be getting ahead of itself.

Mikel Arteta’s side booked their spot in Budapest by overcoming Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals, clinching a 2-1 aggregate victory after a tense second leg. Bukayo Saka’s late first-half goal proved decisive, securing a 1-0 win on the night.

The achievement marks only the second time in Arsenal’s history that they have reached European football’s showpiece event. Their last appearance was in 2006, where they ultimately fell to Barcelona.

Rooney’s warning amid celebrations

The outpouring of emotion from players, staff, and supporters, which included fireworks, was palpable. However, Wayne Rooney, who won the Champions League with Manchester United in 2008 but also lost finals in 2009 and 2011, offered a word of warning.

Speaking in his punditry role on Amazon Prime, Rooney stated, “The celebrations are a bit too much. They’ve not won it yet.” His comments highlight the fine line between celebrating a significant milestone and maintaining focus on the ultimate prize.

Sportbible also highlighted the contrasting reaction from former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, who reflected the excitement inside the stadium. “Incredible scenes here. I’ve never seen the Emirates quite like it – that connection with the fans we talk about… Some people here weren’t even born when they last got to the final, and it’s one of those now ‘can they go that one step further?’ Maybe they are the team that can do it this year,” he said.

Awaiting the final opponent

Arsenal will now await the outcome of the other semi-final, which pits holders Paris Saint-Germain against Bayern Munich. PSG currently holds a 5-4 aggregate lead after the first leg, with the decider set to be played in Munich on Wednesday night.

Under Arteta, Arsenal have steadily improved their European pedigree. Two years ago, they reached the Champions League quarter-finals, and last season saw them beaten in the semi-finals by PSG. This season’s progression to the final represents a significant step forward for the club on the continental stage.
