Saquon Barkley’s afternoon in Philadelphia ended early. The running back was hurt on a six-yard run in the first quarter, grabbed his right hamstring and hobbled to the Eagles sideline, where trainers walked him to the blue medical tent before he continued to the locker room, the Associated Press reported from Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles listed him as questionable to return with an apparent hamstring injury.

A thin backfield behind him

With Barkley sidelined, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley are the candidates for carries out of the Eagles backfield, Rotowire reported.

The injury hit a team that was already short-handed. Philadelphia played Sunday without six starters, including wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and linebacker Zack Baun (concussion). Tight end Dallas Goedert, left guard Landon Dickerson and safety Marcus Epps also sat out with injuries, and offensive lineman Lane Johnson was a late scratch for personal reasons.

174 yards through three games

Barkley had 174 rushing yards over the Eagles’ first three games, a modest total by his standards. The next concrete update on his status is expected in the Eagles’ postgame injury report.
