According to Il Fatto Quotidiano, the world No. 1 was back on a hard court in Monaco more than three weeks after his defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Paris, where he suffered a sudden bout of illness.

A careful return after Paris setback

Sinner’s return comes after a period of rest and medical checks. After his early exit from Roland Garros, the Italian took time away from the tour, including a short holiday with his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic.

He also underwent two days of detailed medical examinations at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, as his team sought to better understand what had happened during the match in Paris. The concern now appears to have eased, allowing Sinner to resume training with Wimbledon in mind.

No tournaments before Wimbledon

The Italian is not expected to play another official tournament before the grass-court Grand Slam begins on Monday, June 29. Wimbledon is scheduled to run until Sunday, July 12.

Instead, Sinner’s only competitive outing before the tournament will be an exhibition event. The decision points to a cautious approach, with his team prioritising controlled preparation over match play as he looks to arrive in London fully fit.

Training session with Rune

Sinner’s first session back also drew attention because of the player on the other side of the net. He trained with Denmark’s Holger Rune, who is working his way back after several months out with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Footage shared on Instagram by @dr.alexandra_dorobantu showed the two players exchanging shots at a steady pace. For Sinner, the goal is to regain sharpness ahead of Wimbledon. For Rune, the session marked another step towards a return to official competition.

Focus turns to grass

With the immediate health scare behind him, Sinner’s focus is now firmly on Wimbledon. The Italian won the tournament for the first time in 2025 and will return this year looking to defend his title and reinforce his place at the top of the men’s game.
