CD Tenerife announced the death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda on Tuesday morning, 3 November, in a statement signed by the Spanish second-tier club.
“Broken by grief, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe this is true, we announce the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda, this Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at 8am,” the club said.
“There are no words of consolation; there is absolutely nothing to ease this sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, with the whole of the Tenerife faithful who today weep at this cruel outcome.”
De Miguel had collapsed on Monday evening at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, deep into stoppage time of a match in which Tenerife and Andorra had drawn 2-2.

The collision in added time
Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono had come out of his area to break up a counter-attack when he caught De Miguel in the chest with his knee as the two challenged for the ball, according to El Español. Referee Pérez Hernández produced a direct red card for the goalkeeper and suspended the match after consulting both captains and the coaching staff.
Medical staff began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the pitch. According to Diario de Avisos, citing Cadena COPE, the staff who attended De Miguel managed to restore his pulse through CPR. He was breathing on his own but unconscious when he reached the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz.
‘Stable within gravity’, then a decline overnight
Tenerife’s first medical bulletin described him in the intensive care unit as “stable, within the gravity” of his condition. In the early hours of Tuesday, the club issued a second update saying his neurological state had worsened.
By 8am local time he had died.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation had already sent a message of support on Monday night, offering “all our encouragement, strength, and support to Jesús de Miguel”, as reported by Fox Sports. FC Andorra also issued a statement of solidarity with the player, his family and Tenerife before the death was confirmed.
De Miguel made his debut in 2015 with Leganés B and played for nine Spanish clubs across his career. CD Tenerife asked that the family’s request for privacy be respected and did not announce further arrangements in Tuesday’s statement.
