Imagine a cycling world where the biggest stars compete against each other in an entirely new race series, created from the ground up by the sport’s own giants.
According to several international media outlets, the announcement could come before the start of this summer’s Tour de France.

The project has been in the works for a long time and is led by, among others, Richard Plugge, the head of Team Visma | Lease a Bike.
Behind him stand some of the world’s largest teams such as INEOS Grenadiers, Soudal Quick-Step, and Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe.
A New Model for the Flow of Money in Cycling
One Cycling aims to break away from the old model, where teams are almost 100% dependent on sponsor income.

Instead, they plan to ensure direct payment to the teams through shared TV rights and events.
An investment of up to 300 million euros from the Saudi Arabian SURJ fund will secure the project’s first year.
The goal is for the project to be self-sustaining by 2029 – primarily through ticket sales, merchandise, and events with fan activities.

New Races and Big Names
The plan includes cooperation with classic races like the Tour of Flanders and the Tour de Suisse – as well as potential new races in Saudi Arabia, Asia, and North America.
The teams are committed to sending their top riders, and this is expected to give One Cycling the sporting weight it needs.
The project is trying to find its place within the UCI’s framework, and the federation has expressed openness – as long as rules and structure are respected.
But the big question remains: will A.S.O., the organization behind the Tour de France, be on board?

If not, it could be difficult to shift the power in a sport where the Tour is king of them all.
