England travel to Prague on Tuesday to face the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League, with Thomas Tuchel under real pressure only one match into the group stage. Kick-off at the Fortuna Arena is 8:45pm local time.

Tuchel’s side lost 3-2 at home to Spain in their opening group game, a defeat that has sharpened the focus on the German manager’s tenure. Speaking before the trip to Prague, he acknowledged the pressure but pushed back on the framing of the tie as decisive, saying the match against Czechia was “not yet a must-win”.

The Czechs are also looking for a first win in the group. They lost 2-1 to Croatia in their opener, and the two sides now meet in Prague knowing that a second defeat would leave either team with plenty to do in a four-team group.

Squad concerns for Tuchel

England’s preparation has been complicated by injuries in defence. Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly both missed group training in the build-up and are doubts for the game, with Tuchel confirming that the pair were working on individual programmes rather than with the rest of the squad.

The absences add to a night on which England’s back line looked porous against Spain, and the manager has hinted at a reshuffle for the visit to the Fortuna Arena. Harry Kane, who scored against Spain, is expected to lead the line again.

Nothing is settled by matchday two, but a second defeat would leave Tuchel answering questions his federation would rather not hear this early in the qualifying window for the next major tournament. A win, by contrast, would reset the group and take some of the heat off a manager whose honeymoon period has been shorter than most.
