Ask the player preparing to chase Justin Herbert around SoFi Stadium on Sunday, and the scouting report sounds nothing like the box score.
“Herbert, he’s playing out of his mind,” Houston Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Jr said ahead of the Week 9 trip to Los Angeles, according to NFL.com, adding that the Chargers’ offensive line and running backs would make for a tough challenge.
Herbert and the Chargers are 0-7, the only team in the NFL yet to win a game this season. He has thrown an interception in every outing, with five touchdown passes against a league-high 10 picks.
The completion rate and the loss column
Herbert’s completion rate sits at 61.8%, a career low. His offence ranks 28th in yards per game, 26th in passing yards per game and 31st in interception rate, per the figures cited in NFL.com’s piece.

After the Chargers’ 24-9 loss to the Rams on November 2, Los Angeles safety Quentin Lake offered a very different read.
“He was throwing deli meat out there. He’s seeing ghosts,” Lake said on the St. Brown Podcast, per NFL.com.
Herbert’s career loss total reached 50 in that defeat, the most of any quarterback in the league since 2020, according to Yahoo Sports, moving him past Baker Mayfield.
Nine quarters without a touchdown
Head coach Jim Harbaugh is in his second season in Los Angeles, with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel added over the off-season to design around Herbert. The offence has instead gone nine straight quarters without a touchdown, failing to reach the end zone since Week 5.

Herbert himself has not hidden from it.
“I’ve got to be smarter with the ball,” he told the Chargers’ in-house reporters after the Rams loss, calling his interceptions “bad decisions” that he had to clean up.
Harbaugh pointed at the same spot, saying turnovers were what was stopping the Chargers and the team had to put it right.
DeMeco Ryans’ Texans arrive at 2-5 after a bye week, with extra time to prepare for a quarterback whose film, Anderson insists, still looks like a franchise player’s. Kickoff is set for Sunday, November 8 at 1:05pm local time at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, with CBS carrying the broadcast.
