Real Madrid coach Arbeloa delivered a candid assessment of player commitment and addressed the futures of both Kylian Mbappé and Dani Carvajal following his side’s victory over Espanyol.

The win, secured by a second-half brace from Vinicius, served to delay Barcelona’s potential league title celebration by one week, adding a layer of tension to the upcoming El Clásico.

The spotlight on player dedication intensified after Kylian Mbappé, currently injured, was seen traveling to Italy.

His arrival back in Madrid coincided precisely with the kick-off of the Espanyol match, sparking questions about his focus. While Arbeloa acknowledged individual freedom, his broader message to the squad was unequivocal.

“We have not built Real Madrid with players who take to the field dressed in tuxedos,” Arbeloa stated in his post-match press conference, as reported by SERGIO RODRÍGUEZ C. for Marca. “But with players who finish with their shirts full of sweat, mud, effort, sacrifice, and perseverance.”

This philosophy appears to be a direct challenge to any perceived lack of commitment within the squad, especially as the season draws to a close without silverware for Real Madrid.

Carvajal’s impending departure and injury battle

Adding to the off-field discussions is the situation surrounding Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal. Injured and sidelined, Carvajal is reportedly not planning to renew his contract with the club, signaling an impending departure.

Despite this, Arbeloa expressed a strong desire to see the veteran defender back on the pitch before the season concludes.

“I still have great hopes that he can play before the season ends and can bid farewell to the season playing on the field, which is what Dani Carvajal deserves,” Arbeloa remarked.

With only four matchdays remaining in the season, time is running out for Carvajal to make a final appearance in a Real Madrid shirt.

El Clásico looms with title implications

The win against Espanyol saw Thiago Pitarch start ahead of Camavinga, while Mendy was forced off with an injury just ten minutes into the match.

Fran García, chosen over Carreras as Mendy’s replacement, delivered a notable performance. However, these individual moments are overshadowed by the looming clash with Barcelona.

The Catalan giants now have the opportunity to mathematically secure the La Liga title at Camp Nou if Real Madrid fails to win the highly anticipated El Clásico.

For a Real Madrid side facing a trophyless season, the upcoming derby carries significant symbolic weight, demanding the very commitment Arbeloa emphasized.
