Jonas Vingegaard continued his impressive run at the Giro d’Italia on Sunday, securing his second stage victory in three days. The Danish rider, representing Visma-Lease a Bike, conquered Stage 9, a challenging 184km route from Cervia to Corno alle Scale. Despite Vingegaard’s dominance, Afonso Eulálio of Bahrain Victorious successfully defended his overall lead, retaining the coveted pink jersey.
According to The Guardian, Vingegaard’s winning move came at the end of the final climb to the Corno alle Scale finish. After an attack by Austrian rider Felix Gall from Decathlon near the stage’s conclusion, Vingegaard launched his decisive solo effort, pulling away from the chasing group to cross the line first. His teammate, Davide Piganzoli, also showed strength, finishing third on the stage.
Eulálio’s resilient ride
While Vingegaard celebrated his individual triumph, Afonso Eulálio delivered a resilient performance to protect his general classification advantage. The Bahrain Victorious rider crossed the finish line in fifth place, 41 seconds behind Vingegaard. This strong showing ensured he maintained his position atop the overall standings as the Giro heads into its first rest day.
The race dynamic is set to shift significantly with the upcoming stages. Riders will enjoy a much-needed rest day on Monday before returning to action. The next competitive segment, Stage 10, is scheduled for Tuesday.

Stage 10 presents a crucial test for the general classification contenders. It will be a 42km individual time trial, stretching from Viareggio to Massa.
