According to TSN’s report on Bobby McMann’s contract extension, the Seattle Kraken have signed the 30-year-old forward to a six-year deal carrying an average annual value of $5.75 million.

The agreement keeps McMann away from unrestricted free agency and gives Seattle long-term certainty around a winger who quickly made himself part of the club’s plans after arriving from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A late bloomer earns his payday

McMann’s new contract marks a major step up from the two-year, $2.7 million deal he had been playing under, which carried a $1.35 million annual cap hit.

It also comes after the most productive season of his NHL career. Splitting the year between Toronto and Seattle, McMann finished with 29 goals and 46 points in 78 games. Both marks were career highs, surpassing the 20 goals and 34 points he recorded with the Maple Leafs in 2024-25.

His path to this contract has been far from straightforward. McMann was never drafted and signed with Toronto as a free agent in 2022. Since then, he has worked his way into a full-time NHL role, building career totals of 64 goals and 105 points in 218 regular-season games.

Seattle sees him as part of the core

McMann was acquired by Seattle from Toronto on March 6 in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-round pick. The move was made with an eye on adding scoring, but the extension shows the Kraken now view him as more than a short-term addition.

In the Kraken’s official announcement of the deal, general manager Jason Botterill described McMann as a priority signing.

“Re-signing Bobby was a priority this summer,” Botterill said. “He made an immediate impact in our lineup with his size, speed and goal scoring. There’s a lot to love about his game. We’re thrilled he wants to call Seattle home for years to come.”

McMann produced 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games after joining the Kraken, a strong finish that helped push his value well beyond his previous contract.

Another move up front

Seattle’s deal with McMann came on the same day the club added another forward. In a separate official Kraken release on the Mackie Samoskevich trade, the team announced it had acquired Samoskevich from the Florida Panthers.

The price was significant: Seattle sent Florida a 2026 first-round pick, originally from Tampa Bay, and a conditional 2027 second-round pick. Samoskevich, 23, had 12 goals and 32 points in 77 games for Florida last season.

Together, the McMann extension and Samoskevich trade point to an aggressive start to Seattle’s offseason. The Kraken are adding and retaining scoring at a time when their front office is trying to reshape the roster for the seasons ahead.
