Curry opens the door
LeBron James’ next decision is already shaping the NBA offseason, and Golden State remain one of the most fascinating possibilities.
James has left the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons and is preparing for what would be a record 24th NBA campaign. According to CBS Sports, his agent Rich Paul told ESPN that James will not return to the Lakers and intends to sign elsewhere.
That has immediately revived one of basketball’s great what-if scenarios: LeBron James and Stephen Curry on the same team.
The idea is still far from certain, and other destinations appear to be more prominent in the race. But Curry has done little to shut down the speculation.

According to San Francisco Chronicle, Curry confirmed that he has been in contact with James as the four-time NBA champion considers his next step.
“We’ve obviously talked,” Curry said. “He deserves all the patience and space to figure out what he wants to do as his career winds down. We all understand and appreciate that.”
Then came the line that will only add fuel to the rumours.
“I would love to play with him, and hopefully that will be a reality soon,” Curry said.

Golf joke adds to the intrigue
Curry also struck a lighter tone when asked about the possibility of finally joining forces with his long-time rival.
According to Yardbarker, citing HITC, Curry joked that he was just as interested in seeing James on the golf course.
“I’d say more so I’m interested to just play golf with LeBron,” Curry said. “We’ll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent. He’s out here really grinding on the game.”
The comment was playful, but the bigger message was clear enough. Curry is open to the idea, and Golden State have not been ruled out.

For years, James and Curry stood on opposite sides of the NBA’s defining rivalry. Now, near the end of both careers, the possibility of them becoming teammates has become one of the league’s biggest stories.
Warriors are not the clear favourites
Golden State may be the most romantic destination, but they are not necessarily the most likely.
According to The Sporting News’ LeBron James rumours tracker, Cleveland, Miami and Philadelphia have all been repeatedly mentioned as major contenders, while Minnesota have also pushed to stay in the conversation.
The Warriors remain in play, but the path is complicated. Their roster is ageing, their financial flexibility is limited, and any move for James would require careful cap management.

Still, the basketball logic is obvious.
Curry remains one of the greatest shooters the sport has ever seen. Draymond Green has long had a close relationship with James. Golden State have also brought back Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford, while younger players such as Brandin Podziemski and Yaxel Lendeborg could be asked to help support one final title push.
LeBron is chasing the right ending
James’ decision is not expected to be driven by money alone.
At this stage of his career, the question is more about fit, legacy and whether he can find a realistic route to one more championship. A return to Cleveland would carry obvious emotional appeal. Miami would offer familiarity. Philadelphia could offer a ready-made contender after a dramatic offseason.

Golden State would offer something else entirely: a final chapter alongside the player who defined much of his second Cleveland run.
It would be strange, dramatic and controversial. It would also be box-office basketball.
A decision that could reshape the league
The NBA has already been transformed by a chaotic offseason, with major moves involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown and Kawhi Leonard changing the balance of power.
But James’ choice still sits above everything else.
If he chooses Cleveland, the Cavaliers would instantly become one of the league’s biggest stories. If he chooses Miami or Philadelphia, the Eastern Conference changes again. If he chooses Golden State, the NBA would get one of its most unlikely superstar pairings.
Curry has now said the words everyone wanted to hear.
The question is whether LeBron wants the same ending.
