Amorim looks back on United spell
Ruben Amorim has apologised to Manchester United fans after reflecting on his turbulent time at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach was dismissed in January after 14 months in charge, a period that began with optimism but ended with frustration, tension and questions over whether his football ever truly suited United.
According to Sky Sports’ report on his dismissal, United sacked Amorim after rising internal tension, with his refusal to adapt his preferred back-three system seen as one of the factors behind the breakdown.
Now, several months later, Amorim has offered a more reflective view of the experience.

“The only thing I can say is that I learn a lot and I did some mistakes,” Amorim said, according to The Peoples Person’s report on his comments. “I didn’t have opportunity, and I am sorry for that, to say something to the Manchester United fans at the moment.”
He added: “I am really proud to have been their coach for a year.”
A reign that never settled
Amorim arrived at Manchester United with a strong reputation from Sporting CP and a clear tactical identity.
But his time in England never developed into the stable project many had expected. United struggled for consistency, criticism grew around his system, and the pressure around the club became increasingly difficult to manage.

According to Sky Sports’ analysis by Adam Bate, the decision to remove Amorim reflected not only his own difficulties, but also another failed United attempt to build a long-term managerial project.
His departure followed a period of poor results and growing disagreement over the direction of the team.
For Amorim, the apology suggests that he now sees the United job as a painful but valuable lesson.
New challenge at AC Milan
Amorim has since returned to management.

According to AC Milan’s official announcement, the Italian club appointed him as head coach of the men’s first team in June.
Speaking about his new role, Amorim said the Milan challenge has given him fresh motivation after the disappointment of his last job.
“It’s an honour to be here. I’m so happy,” he said. “I can feel that here people feel the club.”
He also admitted that the difficult ending at United has left him hungry to prove himself again.

“The belief that I had at Sporting is the same belief I have now, with a little bit more hunger,” Amorim said. “Maybe because of the last adventure. I’m really hungry for success.”
United chapter ends with regret
Amorim’s apology will not change how his United spell is remembered.
The club expected progress, but instead found itself dealing with another managerial reset. Supporters were left disappointed, and the project that had once promised a new identity never properly took hold.
Still, his comments offer something that is not always heard after a high-profile dismissal: a direct acknowledgement that mistakes were made.

For United fans, it may not be enough.
For Amorim, it is a final word on a chapter that went wrong, and the beginning of another attempt to show that his coaching reputation can survive what happened at Old Trafford.
