Charles Leclerc got hold of a boom microphone at the Hungaroring and dangled it around a doorway, straight over Lewis Hamilton’s head. His Ferrari teammate did not immediately look up.

Hamilton was meeting fans and media at the Hungarian Grand Prix when the mic swung into his field of vision. He initially appeared surprised before the doorway gave up its secret and Leclerc leaned into view. The scowl broke into a laugh.

Then came the counter. Hamilton reached for the nearest camera and jokingly threatened to reveal one of Leclerc’s favourite pizza toppings on the record. Leclerc walked out laughing nervously.

“Not on camera! I leave with my mic,” the 28-year-old said as he retreated.

Video goes viral

Ferrari cut the exchange into a short clip and pushed it out across their channels with the caption “There’s a new nosy boom mic operator in town”. It moved fast. The video passed 930,000 views on X with more than 13,000 likes, and on Instagram it topped 10.8 million views and 520,000 likes.

The reaction thread turned quickly to Leclerc’s supposed pizza sins. Speculation about pineapple was the running joke, though the video itself never confirmed the topping in question.

Hamilton and Leclerc, year two

Hamilton, 41, and Leclerc, 28, are in their second campaign together at Ferrari after the Briton’s switch from Mercedes.

The weekend that followed was less amusing for the pair. Lando Norris won the race for McLaren, with Leclerc fifth and Hamilton sixth after a pit-lane speeding penalty. Formula 1 now heads into its summer break.
