Enzo Maresca has his wide forward. Manchester City reached an agreement with Everton for Iliman Ndiaye on deadline day, with £60m guaranteed and a further £5m in add-ons, and the medical booked for Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Senegal international was cleared by Everton to travel for the tests, AFP reported. It is City’s fourth major arrival of the window, after Elliot Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Brazilian winger Allan Elias, who joined from Palmeiras for £34.2m.

The chase City won

Four Premier League clubs had been circling Ndiaye. Tottenham looked to have him for weeks, at one point tied to a swap that would have sent Richarlison back to Merseyside, before that arrangement fell apart. Arsenal then made a late move to hijack the Spurs bid, echoing their pursuit of Eberechi Eze the previous summer, and Chelsea had circled earlier in the window.

Ndiaye had also come close to a move to Saudi Arabia. Reports in his native Senegal said a switch to Al-Hilal was almost done before the player pulled out.

Manchester City only reactivated their interest in the final 48 hours, after Liverpool rejected their offer for Cody Gakpo. Once back in the frame, they outbid Tottenham and closed the deal.

What Ndiaye gives Maresca

The signing addresses a wide shortage created when Savio and Omar Marmoush both moved to Tottenham this summer. Ndiaye plays either flank but favours the right and can also operate as an attacking midfielder, according to Yahoo Sports.

His 2025/26 Premier League season for David Moyes’ Everton produced six goals and three assists in 34 matches, following his £15m arrival from Marseille in July 2024. So far in the new 2026/27 campaign he had played just 261 minutes across three Everton matches before the move.

Maresca, appointed Manchester City manager on 29 June on a three-year contract to succeed Pep Guardiola, described his job at the time as “a brilliant opportunity”. He now has a versatile forward with two Premier League seasons behind him.

Tottenham turn to Mudryk

Beaten to Ndiaye, Tottenham opened loan talks with Chelsea for Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukrainian winger has not played competitively since being provisionally suspended in a doping case, and a loan would give Spurs a low-fee option in the closing hours of the window.

For Everton, the sale represents a £50m profit on a player they signed 26 months earlier for £15m. Ndiaye’s medical is scheduled for Tuesday, with the English summer transfer window set to close later the same day.
