The Italian transfer reporter was unambiguous when asked this week about the goalkeeper’s future at Anfield.
“At the moment, there are not active conversations between Alisson and Liverpool over a new deal,” Romano said, before adding a line that will not calm supporters on Merseyside.
“Let’s see. I think there could be movements in summer 2027.”
The 34-year-old is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, which runs until June 2027 with no further extension options remaining. Without fresh terms, Alisson will be free to speak to foreign clubs from January and leave for nothing when the deal expires.

Juventus already lining up a Roma reunion
Italy is the most-watched landing spot. Juventus made a concrete approach earlier in 2026 before Liverpool held firm and kept the goalkeeper for the current season.
Tuttosport has since reported that director Ricky Massara and head coach Luciano Spalletti, both of whom worked with Alisson at Roma, are already lining up the Brazilian as a free-agent target for 2027.
Alisson spent two seasons at Roma before his 2018 move to Liverpool, overlapping with Spalletti during the Italian’s second spell at the club.
A rebuild without the old leaders
The talks vacuum lands in a season of transition at Anfield. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson both left in the summer, closing a nine-year chapter in which Liverpool won every major club trophy. Andoni Iraola took charge in June after replacing Arne Slot, and the Spaniard is already recasting the leadership core.

Succession planning in goal is further along. Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived from Valencia ahead of the 2025-26 season and is now in his second campaign at the club.
Whether that is enough to let Alisson walk is the question Iraola and his recruitment staff will have to answer in the coming months. The Brazilian has been first choice since 2018 and remains one of the most respected goalkeepers in Europe.
A free departure would be the third high-profile exit on the trot after Salah and Robertson, each of them central figures of the Jürgen Klopp years.
Alisson will be free to open talks with foreign clubs from 1 January 2027 if no new deal is signed before then.
