Rúben Amorim has not yet started a Milan match with all his major summer signings on the pitch at the same time. That changes on Sunday at Sassuolo.
The 41-year-old, appointed by Milan in June after leaving Manchester United, has used the international break to assemble the lineup he actually wanted from day one. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, this is the most dazzling XI of his young Milan era, built around Mike Maignan in goal, Samuel Chukwueze on the right flank and Diego Moreira keeping the shirt he earned off the bench.
An attack-first XI
Mario Gila anchors a back line reshaped by his €30m summer arrival. Christian Pulisic plays as the attacking midfielder behind Gonçalo Ramos, with Adrien Rabiot and Yunus Musah competing for the holding role.
Amorim has been candid about the balance he wants from Moreira.

“On the left he is more direct, on the right he tries more combinations and one-on-ones,” Amorim told Gazzetta dello Sport of the young Portuguese winger.
Pressure on the summer’s biggest buy
Ramos was Milan’s most expensive signing of the summer. He has one league goal to show for it.
The pressure to produce has not softened Amorim’s defence of the Portugal striker.
“I’m not going to say Ramos should run less. I’ll never say that about a player,” he told DAZN this week.

He has resisted making the attack revolve around his No 9.
“I have to think about the good of the team, not just this or that player. Of course, we need to create more scoring chances and get more balls into the box, but not just for Ramos,” Amorim told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Fifth place and a chance to climb
Milan sit fifth in Serie A, unbeaten with 11 points from five matches. Alexis Saelemaekers is out for four months with an ankle injury picked up in training, and left-back Pervis Estupiñán returns from international duty with a knee sprain.
A win in Reggio Emilia would leave Milan unbeaten after six Serie A games for the first time since 2022-23. Kick-off at the Mapei Stadium is at 6pm local time.
