“Not even a competition”: Bruyneel, Hincapie and Martin place Seixas above 20-year-old Pogacar

On The Move podcast after the race, Johan Bruyneel, George Hincapie and Spencer Martin agreed that the 20-year-old Decathlon CMA CGM rider is already further along than Tadej Pogacar was at the same age.

Spencer Martin was the most emphatic.

“Oh, it’s not even a competition. He’s so much better than Pogacar was in one-day racing at 20 years old,” he said.

Hincapie did not go quite that far, but came close.

“You can almost say that might be even better than Pogacar at 20 years old,” he said.

Bruyneel ran through the Frenchman’s 2026 season on the show and settled on a career-length verdict.

“It’s pretty impressive, man. I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting other one-day races, but just to name those four, that’s like, okay, you can basically hang your whole career on those results,” he said.

The results Bruyneel was tallying included Il Lombardia and a fourth place overall at this year’s Tour de France, which Seixas rode at 19.

20 years and 16 days

Seixas launched his winning move on the Civiglio climb with around 20 kilometers to go, dropping Giulio Ciccone and Tom Pidcock inside 500 meters and soloing into Como. He arrived 48 seconds ahead of Enric Mas and 1 minute 5 seconds clear of Ciccone over the 239 km route from Bergamo.

Born in Lyon on 24 September 2006, Seixas was 20 years and 16 days old at the start. That made him the youngest winner in the race’s 120-year history.

It was also Decathlon CMA CGM’s first Monument, and it ended a five-year streak of wins at Il Lombardia by Tadej Pogacar and UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

Seixas spoke in Como once the dust had settled.

“It’s crazy. Everything went to perfection. The teammates did an awesome job, all of them pushed more than what they had to do,” he said.
