Paris Saint-Germain have not pulled back from a long-term commitment to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, despite the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament that will keep him out for most or all of the current season.

RMC Sport reports that the club and the 25-year-old’s camp have started working through the financial terms of a new deal that would run until 2032, three years beyond his current contract. The French broadcaster describes PSG’s intention to extend as a clear priority, and says negotiations opened before the injury and are continuing after it.

Kvaratskhelia’s existing contract at the Parc des Princes expires in the summer of 2029. The new terms would make him one of the top earners in the squad, according to RMC Sport’s reporting relayed by African football outlet AfricaSoccer, with the salary package the main item still to be settled.

Nothing has been signed. The talks are described as being in an early phase, and neither PSG nor the player’s representatives have publicly announced an agreement.

A commitment framed by a serious injury

The contract push lands in the middle of difficult news for the club. Kvaratskhelia tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during PSG’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona on 20 October, going down heavily early in the second half at the Parc des Princes.

PSG issued a statement the following day.

“Having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo surgery in the coming days,” the club said.

A full ACL rupture typically rules a player out for at least nine months, and CBS Sports reports that Kvaratskhelia is likely to miss the rest of the season as PSG chase a third successive European title.

Two other first-team players came out of the Barcelona match injured as well. Ousmane Dembélé sustained a left thigh muscle tear in the 19th minute, while captain Marquinhos tore his right thigh. Both are expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

One million euros a month for a player facing nine months out

Opening or continuing contract talks days after a long-term injury is unusual, which is why RMC’s reporting has carried weight. A player facing nine months on the sidelines has little leverage, but the French broadcaster says PSG’s position has not moved: the club wants Kvaratskhelia tied down, and is willing to pay to keep him.

For the player’s side, the ask is said to be a salary north of one million euros gross per month, a figure the club is reportedly prepared to work with. RMC Sport frames the remaining distance between the two camps as a matter of structure rather than principle.

Kvaratskhelia will have surgery in the coming days, with his return not expected before late next summer.
