Roglic lands in Taiwan without a 2027 team and retirement still on the table

Primoz Roglic will headline the Taiwan Masters Ride on 9 November with the biggest question of his career still unresolved, whether he lines up for a new team in 2027…

The resolution could land within days. Domestique Cycling reports that Visma | Lease a Bike have closed the door on a reunion with their former Grand Tour leader, and that Roglic has turned down a formal offer from Belgian WorldTeam Lotto-Intermarché. That has thinned the field to a handful of names still in circulation: Pinarello Q36.5, Tudor Pro Cycling, and the ambitious ProTeam Unibet Rose Rockets, whose founder Bas Tietema acknowledged earlier contact with the Slovenian.

Retirement is a real option, not a rhetorical one. Speaking to Domestique Cycling ahead of Il Lombardia, Roglic kept the door open to both.

“I believe I will continue racing.”

He has also said that Il Lombardia could be the last race of his professional career.

A career worth deciding carefully

Roglic turned 37 on 29 October and completed three seasons at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe at Il Lombardia on 10 October, finishing 68th in his last race for the team. His Grand Tour record is why every rumour has moved markets: four Vuelta a España titles, in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024, and the 2023 Giro d’Italia. The fourth Vuelta win tied the all-time record held by Spain’s Roberto Heras.

2026 did not read like a farewell season. He finished second at the Vuelta despite a disrupted build-up and took a time-trial victory at the European Championships on home roads.

The agent has already set the clock

A late transfer is a logistical knot. New bikes, new kit, a December training camp, a January calendar, all of it needs to be in place before the first race of 2027. His long-time agent Mattia Galli told Italian site Tuttobiciweb in mid-October that preparations should have begun before November, as reported by Cycling Up To Date. That cut-off has now passed.

Roglic himself has sounded unresolved for weeks. “The future will tell us where we end up. If I knew myself, I could say more,” he told Slovenian broadcaster Val 202 after the Vuelta, reported by Cycling Up To Date.

Monday in Taipei

The Taiwan Masters Ride takes him south of Taipei on a hilly route with Kern Pharma rider Yen Yi Ho and hundreds of local amateurs. His appearance there was booked long before the transfer window turned into a stand-off.

A new team, if it comes, is expected to be announced before he rides on 9 November.
