Real Madrid were already two up at El Sardinero through a Kylian Mbappé penalty and a Jude Bellingham finish when, in the 36th minute on Saturday, Yan Diomande met a loose ball on the edge of the box first time with his right foot and found the top corner before the goalkeeper moved.
Bellingham, who did not see it coming, spoke about it afterwards.
“It is incredible. I did not know he could hit the ball like that,” he told Real Madrid’s official channel.
Sky Sports pushed the moment out as its own highlight, publishing the clip under the line that his team-mates had been “stunned” by the strike.

Record signing, instant return
The volley was the latest proof that the fee did not scare the 19-year-old. Diomande joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig on 6 August 2026 on a seven-year contract, in a reported €125m deal plus add-ons that made him the club’s most expensive signing of all time. He is the first Ivorian ever to play for Real Madrid.
Mourinho’s Vinícius problem
The Racing goal has sharpened a question José Mourinho did not expect to face so quickly. Vinícius Júnior is serving a four-match suspension after being sent off for pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair, and the Brazilian has already missed games against Sevilla, Barcelona and Racing. Diomande has started on the left in his absence and used the run to turn himself into a talking point.
Bellingham made no attempt to hide where he thought that left the squad.
“He is a special player, and we are very happy to have him in our squad,” the England midfielder added, noting that Diomande had scored a similar goal against Leipzig earlier in the season.

The win was Real Madrid’s fourth in a row in La Liga. Mourinho’s next test is at Valencia on Saturday 7 November, the final match of Vinícius’s suspension, before the Brazilian is cleared to return later in the month.
