Lamar Jackson threw one pass against the Bills. The ball was gone, intended for Zay Flowers, when his right thumb struck the extended arm of pass rusher Gregory Rousseau on the follow-through. He never came back out of the tunnel.

Hours later, Jesse Minter confirmed to reporters that Jackson will undergo surgery on the throwing thumb and be placed on injured reserve. Asked whether it could end the former MVP’s season, the first-year Ravens head coach answered with a single word: “potentially.”

‘Potentially’ season-ending, Minter says

“It’s tough. When it happened, I think at the time, you’re just hoping that maybe it’s something small, and then I think pretty quickly kind of realized what had happened,” Minter told reporters.

A placement on IR rules Jackson out for a minimum of four games. The earliest he could return under the league’s injured reserve rules would be the Ravens’ Week 14 trip to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per Yahoo Sports.

Sunday’s snap was also Jackson’s first since Week 4, when he suffered a high ankle sprain in a loss to the Tennessee Titans. He had sat out three straight games before being cleared to return in Buffalo, as Bleacher Report noted.

Fagnano thrown in cold after Huntley exits

The afternoon only got thinner from there for Baltimore. Backup Tyler Huntley left in the second quarter with a toe injury and was sent for an MRI. That pushed undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, the former UConn quarterback, into his first regular-season NFL action, where he finished 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception and a lost fumble.

Minter credited him for showing up cold.

“I thought Joe came in, to his credit, not really getting a lot of reps in preparation, hung in there, did some good stuff.”

While Baltimore cycled through three quarterbacks, Josh Allen produced one of his sharpest afternoons of the season. The Bills quarterback went 21 of 34 for 289 yards with two passing touchdowns and an interception, according to Rotowire, and added seven carries for 30 yards and a rushing score. Three total touchdowns and a 36-10 win.

The Ravens, now 4-4, face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, with Fagnano in line to start.
