Harry Kane is one goal from the longest consecutive scoring run in the history of the Champions League. He arrives at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Tuesday night with the chance to tie Cristiano Ronaldo on 11 straight matches, a streak the Portuguese set across 2017-18 and nobody has matched since.

Ronaldo scored 17 goals across that 11-game run, which began with his two goals in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Juventus in the 2017 Champions League final. Kane reached ten in a row by finding the net against Arsenal on matchday three. Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy sit next on the all-time list, each on nine.

Atletico arrive at the match unbeaten in their last 16 European home fixtures against German opponents, Goal reports, with Diego Simeone’s side sitting second in LaLiga after seven consecutive wins.

A depleted Bayern leans on Kane

Interim head coach Aaron Danks takes the squad to Spain without Luis Diaz (thigh), Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry (thigh) and Ismael Saibari, who had surgery on his right ankle and is out until the new year, according to Goal.

Danks was in charge for Saturday’s 2-2 Klassiker draw with Dortmund and continues in that role for the trip to Madrid.

Olise and Neuer travelled, status unclear

Michael Olise picked up a knee injury late in that Dortmund match and left the stadium limping. He trained with a bandage on the knee on Monday and flew to Madrid, but Bayern are not committing him to a start.

Sporting director Max Eberl’s priority is not to risk making the knee worse.

“It is positive that he is with us because he is an outstanding player who is always an asset to us. But we will also avoid the risk of it becoming a longer-term injury,” Eberl said, as reported by Goal.

Manuel Neuer, returning from a foot injury that has kept him out for weeks, sits in the same bracket. Danks’s reply on both players left the decision open.

“We just have to see whether they are ready to start or whether they come off the bench.”

Kick-off at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is at 9pm local time.
