Arsenal defender addresses Real Madrid links
The French centre-back, who extended his contract with the Gunners until 2030, addressed ongoing speculation about Madrid’s interest during a recent interview with Telefoot. He said the Spanish club’s attention was flattering but made clear that his focus remains firmly on Arsenal’s ambitions under Mikel Arteta.
Saliba has become a vital part of Arsenal’s defensive core, helping the club to consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League and a Champions League semi-final appearance last season. His calm presence and reading of the game have made him one of the most admired defenders in Europe.
That stability has continued this season. After 15 league matches, Arsenal have been scored against only three times — the best defensive record in the division and their most disciplined start in decades. Saliba’s composure at the heart of defence has been central to that success.
Staying grounded
In comments shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Saliba acknowledged Real Madrid’s interest but emphasized his commitment to Arsenal’s project. “It’s really tempting,” he said, “but I want to win titles with Arsenal before thinking about anything else.”

His previous deal was due to expire in 2027, and his renewal effectively silenced rumours of a move. Reports in Spain continue to suggest Madrid are monitoring long-term defensive options, but for now, Saliba insists he is focused solely on Arsenal’s goals.
Rising through the ranks
Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Étienne in 2019 and spent loan spells back in France with Saint-Étienne and Nice before cementing his place in the first team during the 2022–23 campaign. Since then, he has made 146 appearances, scored seven goals, and lifted two Community Shields — in 2020 and 2023.
His performances have earned him inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year for three consecutive seasons, confirming his rise among the game’s elite defenders.
Arsenal’s defensive dominance
Arsenal extended their unbeaten run with a 2–0 victory over Burnley at the weekend, maintaining their grip on first place. The team hasn’t conceded a goal in its last seven matches across all competitions — another reflection of Saliba’s leadership and consistency.

Next up, the Gunners face Slavia Prague in the Champions League before visiting Sunderland in the Premier League. If Arsenal’s back line continues to perform at this level, Saliba’s loyalty may prove decisive in ending the club’s long wait for a league title.
A leader for Arsenal’s new era
For all the outside noise surrounding his future, Saliba’s focus and maturity stand out. At just 24, he’s become not only a defensive anchor but also a symbol of the mentality Arteta has instilled in this Arsenal side — disciplined, ambitious, and united.
If his development continues on this path, the question may not be whether Madrid will call again, but how many trophies he’ll have lifted with Arsenal before he even considers answering.
