Arbeloa ‘looking for solutions’ and calls for fans’ backing
Alvaro Arbeloa’s first week in charge of Real Madrid has begun under intense scrutiny after a surprise Copa del Rey elimination raised fresh questions about the team’s direction.
The former defender was appointed on Monday following Xabi Alonso’s departure and saw his opening match end in a damaging defeat away to second-division side Albacete, a result that sparked frustration among supporters and players alike.
League focus returns amid title chase
Attention now turns quickly to domestic matters. Real host struggling Levante on Saturday knowing that any further slip could deepen the gap to Barcelona, who lead the league by four points.
Levante arrive at the Bernabeu sitting second from bottom, but the fixture carries added weight given the mood surrounding the club and the need for a response.

Arbeloa accepts responsibility
Speaking after the cup loss, Arbeloa urged calm and asked supporters to remain patient as he begins his work. He said his focus was on addressing problems internally rather than assigning blame, stressing that responsibility ultimately rests with him.
The 42-year-old acknowledged that recent performances had fallen short, saying he needed to do more to help his players respond on the pitch. However, he made clear that the defeat would not alter his broader approach, arguing that setbacks had helped shape him throughout his coaching career.
“Rock bottom” assessment from captain
The scale of the disappointment was underlined by captain Dani Carvajal, who described the defeat as “rock bottom” following the loss to Albacete.
The result was particularly difficult to accept given Albacete’s position in the Segunda División, where they currently sit 17th.

He highlighted midfielder Jude Bellingham as a central figure in that vision, pointing to the England international’s leadership qualities and creative influence following several days of training under the new regime.
Arbeloa said players must take the field with clarity and personality, reflecting the ambition he wants to see restored in the team’s performances.
Appeal for support at the Bernabeu
