Klopp under pressure at Red Bull, as exit talk grows

Jürgen Klopp’s position within the Red Bull football structure is reportedly coming under early scrutiny, according to French sports daily L’Équipe, which reports that support for the German coach is no longer unanimous behind the scenes.

Klopp only began his role with Red Bull in January 2025. Despite his recent arrival, questions are already being raised about several strategic decisions linked to his influence across the group’s clubs.

Growing questions over sporting direction

According to L’Équipe, one point of tension has been Klopp’s reported backing of Ole Werner at RB Leipzig. Leipzig currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga, 19 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, a gap that has intensified criticism given the club’s title ambitions.

The same report states that Klopp had limited influence over the appointment of a new coach at Paris FC, with other names previously connected to the Red Bull network, including Marco Rose and Adi Hütter, not selected. That decision has reportedly contributed to internal debate over sporting direction.

L’Équipe further reports that performances at both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig have fallen short of expectations this season, adding to concerns among senior figures within the organization.

Red Bull response and mounting speculation

Amid the speculation, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff dismissed similar claims last week, describing talk of instability as “nonsense,” according to L’Équipe. However, the outlet reports that discussion of a potential summer exit for Klopp is continuing to circulate.

While no formal decision has been announced, the report suggests that uncertainty around Klopp’s long term role could grow if results do not improve in the coming months. There is also speculation, according to L’Équipe, that Klopp could consider a return to a direct coaching role should he depart his current position.

Pressure builds ahead of crucial months

Klopp’s managerial legacy at Liverpool, where he won both the Premier League and Champions League, has shaped expectations around his broader strategic role at Red Bull. The current scrutiny highlights the challenges of overseeing a multi club model with high competitive demands.

Whether the pressure eases or intensifies may depend largely on results during the remainder of the season. For now, according to L’Équipe, internal debate continues as the summer approaches.
