Cristiano Ronaldo selects stadium with best atmosphere he played in
Celtic Park has long held a reputation as one of football’s most intense venues and some of the game’s biggest names agree.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has spent his career playing in many of the world’s most famous stadiums, has identified the Glasgow ground as the most memorable atmosphere he has experienced.
The Portuguese forward has featured regularly at elite venues including Manchester United’s Old Trafford, Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu and Juventus’ Allianz Stadium. He has also played at global landmarks such as Camp Nou, Anfield and Wembley.

In comments published by Celtic FC, Ronaldo said: “The Celtic fans are incredible. It is always great to play there.”
Often referred to as Parkhead, Celtic Park is known for its capacity crowds and relentless home support, particularly on European nights. Visiting teams have frequently spoken about the difficulty of playing in such an environment.
Ronaldo’s first visit came in 2006 during a Champions League match with Manchester United. On that occasion, Celtic secured a 1–0 win thanks to a memorable free-kick from Shunsuke Nakamura a result that underlined the challenge of playing in Glasgow.
Although Ronaldo later returned and enjoyed more success, the atmosphere left a lasting impression.

His view is widely shared across the sport. Former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has also spoken about the stadium’s unique energy, describing it as one of the toughest places in Europe to visit and praising the intensity of the crowd during Champions League ties.
Similarly, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has highlighted the impact of Celtic’s support. Speaking in past interviews, he credited the fans with creating an environment that pushes players to their limits and gives the home side a tangible edge.
Celtic Park’s standing in the game has been built over decades of historic matches and passionate backing, and endorsements from figures like Ronaldo, Messi and Ferguson only reinforce its status.
