Former Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim in frame for shock Premier League job
Crystal Palace’s search for a new manager could offer Ruben Amorim an արագ route back to the Premier League, despite his recent struggles at Manchester United.
Oliver Glasner is expected to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season following a successful spell that included FA Cup glory in 2025. As Palace begin planning for the future, TeamTalk reports that Amorim is among the names under consideration to replace the Austrian.
A return to England would mark a quick turnaround for the Portuguese coach, who has been out of work since January.
Difficult Exit, Strong Reputation
Amorim’s time at Manchester United ended in disappointment. The club slumped to a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and fell short in the Europa League final against Tottenham, prompting his dismissal midway through the season.

Since then, interim manager Michael Carrick has steadied performances, with United climbing the table and now pushing for a top-three finish that would secure Champions League football.
Even so, Amorim’s broader reputation remains intact. His success at Sporting CP, where he won two Primeira Liga titles, established him as one of Europe’s most promising young managers. That track record continues to attract interest from clubs willing to look beyond his short spell at Old Trafford.
Competition and Lingering Questions
Amorim is not the only candidate being considered by Palace. TeamTalk also links Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola who is expected to leave when his contract expires as well as Brentford boss Thomas Frank, former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, and Coventry City manager Frank Lampard.
Lampard, in particular, may prove a complicated option after guiding Coventry to Premier League promotion, and it remains unclear whether he would be open to leaving so soon.

Amorim has also been linked with positions at Benfica and Juventus in recent months. At the time, it was suggested he was not prioritising an immediate return to management, though Palace’s interest could prompt a rethink ahead of the new season.
Questions remain, however, about his approach to developing younger players. During his time at United, Amorim faced criticism for limiting opportunities for emerging talent. Explaining his stance, he said:
"[Harry] Amass is now struggling in Championship. Chido [Obi] is not always a starter in under 21."
His handling of Kobbie Mainoo drew particular scrutiny, especially as the midfielder has impressed since being reintegrated under Carrick. Broadcaster Richard Keys was among those to criticise the decision, saying:
"It was ridiculous that Amorim ignored him as he did. Or was I right all along – ignoring Mainoo was just another ploy to get the sack and bank £10m?"
With several clubs expected to reshuffle their managerial setups this summer, Amorim’s next move could be decisive. Whether he returns to the Premier League or opts for a fresh start elsewhere, his next role will likely shape how his time in England is ultimately judged.
