Bayern star punished after falling asleep in Vincent Kompany meeting
Bayern Munich’s march to another Bundesliga title has been defined not only by results on the pitch, but also by a firm approach behind the scenes under Vincent Kompany.
The club sealed the championship with a 4–2 victory over Stuttgart, keeping alive hopes of a treble as they also prepare for a DFB Pokal final and a Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Amid that success, an internal disciplinary case involving a youth player has offered insight into Kompany’s methods.
German outlet SPORT BILD reported that 17-year-old Wisdom Mike was sanctioned after falling asleep during a morning team meeting. The incident followed a late night out in Munich with a teammate, after which the player returned late to the club’s campus.
Mike did not dispute the account, and the matter was handled internally. Rather than addressing it publicly, Kompany chose a more discreet route, speaking directly with the player and, according to the report, also contacting his father.

The response was measured but firm. Mike was temporarily barred from the club’s campus for a week and required to arrange and pay for his own accommodation during that period. No further disciplinary steps were taken once the sanction had been completed.
The episode underlines the standards Kompany has sought to establish since taking charge, drawing on his experience as a captain at Manchester City and his subsequent managerial career.
Mike, who joined Bayern from Duisburg in 2022, has made limited senior appearances this season while continuing his development primarily with the club’s Under-19 side, where he has scored three goals in eleven matches.
Bayern return to league action against Mainz this weekend before shifting focus back to European competition, with their push for multiple trophies entering a decisive phase.
