Doué swept in from Ousmane Dembélé’s slid pass on the hour, and the flag that went up came down again once video review confirmed Matty Cash had played him onside. That goal, on 61 minutes, decided the Super Cup at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday and matched Real Madrid’s back-to-back triumphs of 2016 and 2017.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a rising strike from the left, dipping the ball into the near post.
Madjo strikes on debut at 17
Villa’s leveller before the break came from a name few outside the club knew. Brian Madjo, 17, made his competitive debut days after his registration was cleared through the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and he turned John McGinn’s cross into the roof of the net to become the youngest scorer in the fixture’s history.
The equaliser did not survive long. Dembélé released Doué in behind early in the second half, and even the raised offside flag could not keep the ball out once the video check had run.

Enrique proud of team that pulled together at short notice
PSG’s squad reassembled only days before kick-off after summer international duty, and Luis Enrique framed the result as continuity under difficult circumstances.
“It was a difficult match to prepare for. The players needed a rest and some time with their families but every time they pull on the Paris Saint-Germain shirt, there’s that connection with the fans, and amongst the players themselves,” Enrique told PSG’s official channel.
“What we showed again today is that, despite mistakes and a lot of things missing, we’re the team we’ve always been.”
Nine of the eleven who started against Arsenal in May’s Champions League final also started in Salzburg, with captain Marquinhos again lifting the trophy.

Emery leans on the youngsters
Unai Emery gave debuts to Madjo and midfielder João Gomes and handed Boubacar Kamara his first start since a serious knee injury in January. Several senior returners were held back, and the Villa manager said he was encouraged by how the younger group had handled the night.
“With a loss, you can never feel happy but how we compete, how the players respond on the field for 90 minutes, and our chances to score, we must feel really very proud of what we have done today,” Emery said.
Tammy Abraham had Villa’s clearest late chance but could not reach Alysson’s cutback inside the six-yard box in the closing minutes.
The trophy is the first silverware of PSG’s 2026-27 season, with Luis Enrique’s side chasing a potential six titles in the campaign ahead.
