Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has issued an official statement addressing a recent training ground incident with a teammate, vehemently denying any physical altercation took place. The Uruguayan international admitted to striking a table out of frustration, resulting in a minor injury that will see him miss the club’s upcoming match.
The statement, published by Fabrizio Romano on his verified Instagram account, sought to clear up rumors surrounding the event. Valverde explained that the incident, which involved a second disagreement on the day the statement was released, was a product of intense competition fatigue and mounting frustration.
“At no point did my teammate hit me, I didn’t hit him either,” Valverde stated, directly refuting claims of a physical fight. He elaborated that during the argument, he “accidentally hit a table, causing a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital.”
Frustration boils over in title-less season
Valverde attributed his anger and frustration to Real Madrid’s challenging campaign, which has seen the Spanish giants finish a season without claiming any major titles, including a recent elimination from the Champions League. He suggested that the team’s struggles have led to rumors being “blown out of proportion,” especially in an environment where such issues are typically resolved internally.

The midfielder expressed deep personal disappointment over the team’s performance, indicating that his frustration stemmed from witnessing some players struggling despite their best efforts at the season’s end. The weight of the club’s trophy drought clearly impacted him.
“We’ve wasted another year, and I wasn’t in a position to be posting on social media when the only face I had to show was on the field, and I feel that’s what I did — that’s why I’m the one who’s most saddened and pained to be going through this situation that prevents me from playing the next match due to medical decisions,” Valverde conveyed, highlighting his remorse and the personal toll of the team’s struggles.
As a consequence of the injury and the situation, Valverde will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s next fixture, with the decision made for medical reasons. Despite this setback, he affirmed his full availability to the club and his teammates for any necessary collaboration, emphasizing his commitment as Real Madrid navigates the remainder of a difficult season.
