Seven shots on target. Seven goals. That is Ferran Torres’s return in his first six competitive matches for Paris Saint-Germain, an efficiency line that has upended the pecking order in Luis Enrique’s attack.

The comparison drawn most often is with Zlatan Ibrahimović, who arrived in 2012 and scored six goals in his first five appearances for the club. Torres, signed from Barcelona this summer for around €50m, hit the same six-in-five mark before adding another against Marseille.

He is already PSG’s leading Ligue 1 scorer with four goals, on a team whose league form has otherwise sputtered.

Bench winner at the Vélodrome

The clearest statement came in Marseille on 20 September. Torres replaced Khvicha Kvaratskhelia just before the hour and headed a near-post cross from Désiré Doué past the Marseille goalkeeper in the 66th minute.

Angel Gomes equalized for the hosts six minutes later before captain Marquinhos struck the winner. Final score: 2-1 to PSG.

Hat-trick against Slovan Bratislava

Torres opened his PSG account with two goals against Rennes on the opening day of Ligue 1, then scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava and was named player of the match.

A winner at Brest followed, then the Marseille header.

Four forwards, one number 9

Torres is competing for minutes against Ousmane Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia, Doué and Bradley Barcola. On raw output, none of them has matched him.

Enrique described the fit in terms of movement and space.

“Ferran is distinguished by his strength in penetrating in behind, and he exploits spaces brilliantly.”

Dembélé has been just as effusive about his Spain teammate.

“He’s a fantastic player and a brilliant number nine. He’s always there when you need him.”

Torres, speaking to beIN SPORTS, has kept the tone flat.

“You just have to take your opportunity. Sometimes you get lucky and score, sometimes you don’t.”

The Spaniard has signed a contract through 2031 and taken the number 9 shirt at the Parc des Princes.
