FIFA sells screen shoutouts to World Cup fans, but fine print raises questions

FIFA is preparing to offer fans a new way to appear at the 2026 World Cup… for a price.

Under a programme called “Super Shoutout,” supporters will be able to pay around $79, or about €70, to have their name shown on the giant screens inside stadiums before group-stage matches. The offer applies to the tournament’s 72 group games and is being promoted as a way for fans to become part of the matchday experience.

The initiative was reported by Digi24, which described the offer as a paid opportunity for supporters to see their names displayed on large stadium screens before matches.

Questions over when names will appear

The offer, however, appears to come with an important catch.

FIFA’s promotional material says fan names may appear “during the match.” But the terms and conditions for the product, referred to there as “Super Autographs,” suggest a different arrangement.

According to those conditions, the names will be displayed in the period before the match and “will not be displayed during the match.” In other words, fans expecting to see their name appear while the game is being played may instead find that their moment comes only before kick-off.

That difference between the marketing language and the fine print has raised questions about exactly what buyers are paying for.

Limited places and no guaranteed placement

The terms also make clear that availability is limited and that places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

FIFA does not guarantee the exact duration of each display or where the name will appear on the screen. It also keeps full control over the content, with the right to reject names or messages considered offensive, insulting or otherwise inappropriate.

The programme gives fans a small personal connection to the World Cup stage, while also opening another commercial channel around the tournament. But for anyone considering paying for a shoutout, the details matter: the name may appear only briefly, only before the match, and only on FIFA’s terms.
