A coffee order with precise instructions

Erling Haaland has attracted attention for an unusual coffee order he reportedly uses while visiting the United States.

According to UNILAD, the order emerged from a resurfaced Instagram exchange in which a supporter asked what the Manchester City striker drinks in America.

An account appearing to belong to Haaland responded: “Mold free coffee, raw milk & raw honey !”

The instructions did not end there.

“(Add the raw honey after the temperature drops a bit with a wooden spoon!)” the reply continued.

The combination itself is relatively simple, but the demand for specifically mould-free coffee, unpasteurised milk and a wooden spoon prompted questions from supporters about where Haaland could order such a drink in an ordinary American café.

It should be noted that the order comes from a social media screenshot rather than a new interview with Haaland. It is therefore better described as a resurfaced comment attributed to the Norwegian rather than a newly confirmed revelation.

Haaland has previously shown his coffee routine

The order is consistent with habits Haaland has previously shared publicly.

In videos documenting his diet and daily routine, the striker has been seen adding raw milk and maple syrup to his coffee. He has also spoken positively about several unprocessed foods that form part of his carefully controlled diet.

That does not mean his routine is suitable for everyone. Haaland is an elite athlete whose food intake, training demands and physical requirements are considerably different from those of an average person.

An unusual souvenir from his American summer

The coffee story emerged shortly after Haaland went viral for another unusual purchase during Norway’s World Cup campaign.

The striker bought a taxidermied raccoon holding a whisky bottle from Wild Bill’s Western Store in Dallas. The item reportedly cost $750 and was carried back to Norway following the national team’s quarter-final defeat to England.

According to The Times, Haaland and his Norwegian teammates spent more than $10,000 on Western clothing and unusual souvenirs during their visit to the store.

Haaland later shared an image of the raccoon with the caption: “It followed me home.”

The store has since used the attention to promote a dedicated collection of raccoons and squirrels inspired by Haaland’s visit.

Raw milk carries documented health risks

One part of Haaland’s coffee order comes with an important health warning.

Raw milk has not been pasteurised to remove potentially dangerous bacteria. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it can expose consumers to germs including E. coli, Listeria and Salmonella.

Haaland is free to follow a routine that works for him, but his status as one of the world’s leading athletes should not be treated as evidence that every element of his diet is safe or beneficial for the general public.

For supporters, the resurfaced order offers another glimpse into Haaland’s highly specific habits. For the average café worker, however, the wooden spoon may be the least complicated part of the request.
