Jahmyr Gibbs was the one who did it. The Detroit running back carried 23 times for 153 yards and scored on a 30-yard run midway through the third quarter, and the Lions leaned on the ground game the rest of the way. Detroit improved to 5-2, while Minnesota dropped to 6-1 and lost its unbeaten tag.

Jared Goff finished 18 of 25 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Kyler Murray went 17 of 29 for 210 yards and two touchdowns, threw an interception, and led the Vikings in rushing with 35 yards, but could not pull Minnesota back in front. Justin Jefferson caught five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown on nine targets and showed his frustration on the sideline late in the game.

Buffalo peaks at the wrong moment for Minnesota

Buffalo spent the same Sunday dismantling the Baltimore Ravens 36-10. Lamar Jackson left the game on the first snap with a thumb injury, struck on his follow-through, and is heading to injured reserve. Josh Allen moved past Jim Kelly as Buffalo’s all-time franchise leader in touchdown passes, reaching 260 on a touchdown throw to D.J. Moore.

The game had been built up as a potential first prime-time loss for an unbeaten Vikings side. That framing is gone: Buffalo arrives on Monday as the hotter team.

Monday night at U.S. Bank Stadium

The two teams kick off at 7:15 p.m. local time (8:15 p.m. ET) at U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday, November 9, with Buffalo installed as a 3.5-point favorite. It will be Minnesota’s first prime-time appearance of the season.

Murray carries a questionable tag with a hamstring injury picked up against Detroit, and left tackle Christian Darrisaw is questionable with a shoulder issue. If Murray cannot go, Carson Wentz is in line to start.

Buffalo is not fully fit either: D.J. Moore (knee), Joshua Palmer (hamstring) and right tackle Spencer Brown (back) are all listed as questionable.

Jack Campbell still in hospital

Detroit’s win came at a cost. All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell was taken off the field on a backboard after a neck injury on the first play of the fourth quarter and transported to a local hospital. The club said in a Monday update that he “continues to rest and recover at a local hospital” and that preliminary indications are positive. By Wednesday, the team reported that Campbell has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with upper-body movement, and the staff described themselves as very optimistic. He remains hospitalized.

Head coach Dan Campbell visited him and said he had found his captain in good shape.

“I got to see him last night,” Campbell told reporters. “It was good. It was positive.”

The Lions host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday; the Vikings host Buffalo the night after.
