Corinna Schumacher has never told anyone what her husband’s medical care costs.

That has not stopped a number, €135,000 a week, from taking on a life of its own in the French press this month.

The figure appeared on 12 July in Le Tribunal du Net, which packaged it around older English-language reporting from the Daily Mail, the Mirror and Wales Online.

Neither Corinna, the family lawyer Sabine Kehm nor any medical spokesperson has ever confirmed a weekly cost. No such figure appears in a court document or an official filing.

The more careful English-language reporting is looser with numbers. Newsweek in January put the cost at “tens of thousands” a week, attributing the estimate to unnamed sources cited by the Daily Mail.

IBTimes UK in May, drawing on the same reporting, warned readers to treat secondhand accounts “with considerable caution”, noting that no medical bulletin has been issued and no doctor has appeared on camera.

The €58m villa that may not be for sale

The €135,000 figure is bundled in most French reports with a second claim: that Corinna has listed the family’s Gland estate on Lake Geneva for €58.7m to fund the care.

Motorsport site MotorsActu picked that story apart in May. It found no notarial deed and no listing at Sotheby’s, Christie’s or Knight Frank, and traced the €58.7m number back to a rumour that the Vaud daily 24 Heures had already debunked in 2021, when it emerged that reporters were confusing two Schumacher properties: the family home La Réserve and the Sur le Moulin horse ranch.

Sur le Moulin was in fact quietly listed by Corinna in 2021 for around £6.4m, a 20,000 square-metre property the family bought for £3m in 2002. It is not the €58.7m estate the tabloid story describes.

Mallorca is the operating base

What can be verified is where Schumacher lives now. Villa Yasmin, in the Las Brisas gated community above Port d’Andratx, has been the family’s principal base since Corinna bought it for around €30m in 2018. The 15,000 square-metre compound has two pools, a gym and a private helipad, features that make English-language reporting on the medical set-up there plausible even without a family confirmation.

Twelve years after the accident, no family member has spoken about care costs on the record.
