Real Madrid’s tumultuous season has descended into further chaos following a physical altercation between midfield stars Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, which resulted in Valverde being taken to hospital.

The incident, described as “one of the most heated exchanges ever seen at Valdebebas,” Real Madrid’s training ground, unfolded over two days this week. It began with a heated argument during Wednesday’s training session, where the players reportedly squared up and shoved each other, nearly coming to blows.

Tensions escalated on Thursday when Valverde refused to shake Tchouameni’s hand and later tripped the Frenchman during a session. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa attempted to defuse the situation by placing the two men on the same team, but their bickering continued unabated. According to AS, Valverde accused Tchouameni of leaking details of their initial argument to the press, an accusation Tchouameni denied, citing his limited dealings with media. Valverde’s accusations persisted both on the training pitch and in the locker room, with sources within the team describing the Uruguayan as “incessant.”

The situation reached a breaking point in the locker room. RMC Sport reported that Tchouameni, after calmly asking Valverde to stop, struck his teammate squarely on the head when the accusations continued. Valverde fell, cut his head, and lost consciousness for a few seconds. He was subsequently taken to the hospital, accompanied by manager Arbeloa, and was seen leaving the training ground in a wheelchair due to visible dizziness.

Club vows severe disciplinary action

In response to the grave incident, Real Madrid is holding an emergency meeting to consider disciplinary action against both players. Disciplinary orders have been issued, and an internal investigation is underway. A source within the club told Cadena SER that the punishment for Valverde and Tchouameni “will be the maximum possible penalty.”

A season of turmoil and a crucial Clásico

The locker room brawl underscores the growing tensions within Real Madrid, a club enduring a deeply disappointing campaign. They are out of the Champions League and trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by 11 points with only four games remaining. Reports suggest manager Alvaro Arbeloa has lost significant control over the squad, with as many as six players reportedly no longer speaking to him. This latest incident follows another recent clash between defender Alvaro Carreras and Antonio Rudiger.

The timing could not be worse, as Real Madrid faces Barcelona this weekend in a crucial El Clásico. A loss at the Camp Nou would see their biggest rivals crowned La Liga champions, adding further ignominy to a season already marred by underperformance and now, unprecedented internal strife.
